The first day of school has arrived and the staff of Blair Road P.S. is excited to greet our students for a fantastic 2010-2011 school year. We have an exciting year planned and look forward to working with you to provide the best possible learning environment for every student. Please take time to go through this “Welcome Package” and return the necessary forms with your signature by Friday, September 10th to your child’s teacher.
Website We are working towards becoming a “paperless” school! Please check our website regularly (http://blr.wrdsb.on.ca) for important dates, events and schools news. Please advise Mrs. Harris in the office if you do not have access to a computer and/or the internet so that we can ensure you receive information in hard copy.
Staff It is my honour to be leading the school as your new principal at Blair Road. We would also like to warmly welcome the following teachers to the Blair Road team: Mrs. Lunney-Walsh (Mon, Wed, alternate Fridays Kindergarten, room 1), Mrs. Graham (Grade ½, room 6), Mrs. Hahn (team-teaching grade 3 with Mrs. Morton, room 2), Ms. Allen (Grade 4/5, room 3), Mrs. Carpenter (Grade 5/6, room 10), and Ms. Hall (Special Education Resource Teacher). All of our staff is looking forward to seeing you at Meet the Teacher and Pizza Night on Thursday, September 23rd.
Student Planners Students in grades 1-6 at Blair Road will be using student planners for organizational purposes and we strongly encourage students to purchase our school planner, which contains information specific to Blair Road. The planner can be purchased for $6.00 and payment may be made to your child’s teacher. Please use the bottom portion of this letter in order to purchase your child’s planner.
Parents are encouraged to read the first few pages of the planner with your child as they contain a great deal of information for parents and students in terms of expectations and guidelines for the year. This section of the planner will replace the Parent Handbook this year, and must be signed by a parent and your child.
School Council I would like to thank this year’s council for hosting our Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 23rd. Please join us for Pizza and drinks at 5:00 p.m., and then classroom visits from 5:45-6:15 p.m. This evening is always a great opportunity for parents and students to meet and mingle. Please note that you do not need to pre-order pizza or drinks. Rather, you will be asked in advance whether you plan on attending and paying for food and drinks the night of the event.
School Council will be meeting on Wednesday, September 22nd at 6:00 p.m., and we will be holding elections on this evening. Please take the opportunity to get involved with Council or a committee. Many of the events and initiatives run by Council allow us to augment supplies and provide additional learning experiences for students.
Student Safety Please be reminded that parents are to drop off and pick up their child(ren) at their assigned doors if you wish. It is very important that parents do not enter the school through any doors, other than the front door by the office in order to announce your arrival, and receive a visitor’s pass. This is a safety measure in order to keep all children safe as it can become very difficult to identify unwelcome adults in the school.
If you are driving your child to the school we ask that you stop and/or park on the street. Please do not pull into the parking lot as we have busses arriving and departing throughout the day. It becomes very dangerous to have cars pulling into the lot and turning around as these students are getting on and off their bus.
Kids Club Corner Kids’ Club before and after school program is up and running for another year. Registrations for the afternoon program are currently being taken. The morning program is full. If you have any questions regarding Kids’ Club this year please contact Cathy Small at 519-621-3827. Please be reminded that Kids’ Club children are to be dropped off and picked up at the side door by the library. Front doors are locked before and after school for safety reasons.
Thank you for being partners in your child’s education as we begin a new school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. J. Meyer Principal |
